I woke up Thursday morning around 5 am, my water had broke (although I wasn't aware that had happened until later and I was talking to a nurse). I started having contractions and after Jake called the doctor when they were about 7 minutes apart, we were told we needed to head to the hospital to be checked out. So off we went. We arrived around 9 am. They told Jake to go down stairs to check in and the nurses were taking their sweet time to get me into a room to check me. They did not take me seriously - which is fine, I'm sure they get a lot of false alarms but I was hurting so I was annoyed at the time.
Finally they got me into a room. The nurse finally checked me right when Jake got back to the room. She told me I was at a 5 0r 6 and that I would be having this baby today. I was scared. I wasn't prepared for this - I actually thought that I would be sent home too. I had 3 weeks left - this wasn't supposed to happen.
Helen (my awesome nurse) then started rushing around to get me my epidural. That's right, I wasn't even going to try to do the natural thing. Pump me full of drugs please! Once that epidural was in - everything was fantastic! Besides the panic that by the end of the day I was going to be a mom.
Dr. Ludlow came in a few times to check me out and gave me Pitocin because the epidural had slowed down my contractions. I was stuck at a 7. Around 4:00, I was a 10. At about 4:30-ish, Helen told me to stop pushing or else Dr. Ludlow would miss my baby being born. It was a very inconvenient time to stop pushing but I stopped and Ludlow finally showed up. My little girl was born at 4:59 pm. Hearing her little cry was the most wonderful, amazing sound I have ever heard.
Jake cut the cord, helped wash her off, weigh her and put on her first diaper. He was a very proud daddy.
Being a mom is exhausting! I can't imagine having more than one! I feel very overwhelmed at times because of this huge responsibility but I wouldn't change a thing! And I can't tell you how much I love my husband! He's been so great in taking care of me and helping me around the house. He makes me feel better when I have my random break downs and he's such a good daddy! I can't even say how much I appreciate him and love him. He's amazing!
My litle lady is the most adorable little girl I have ever seen. Here are a few pictures of my sweet little Kaylee.
