My Poor Puppy!

Today was probably the most traumatic day for Kage and I think it was pretty traumatic for me too. But today Kage was stripped of his manhood. He went under the knife and was neutered. I almost turned around though to go pick him up. Let me tell you why...

I called right before New Year's to set up an appointment with the Utah County Pet Clinic, aka, No More Homeless Pets in Utah. I asked them how early appointments were and how late you could pick them up. The lady said if you drop them off between 7-8 am then you pick them up between 7-8 pm. So I told her that's perfect and told her that I worked from 9-5 M-F. She was very impatient though and somewhat rude. I then had to cancel it the next day and reschedule. I could tell it was the same lady because again, she was very impatient and this time really rude. I asked the same thing and she told me the same thing. My mom even called that same day to make an appt for Poppie and the lady told her the same thing.

This morning I get him in the car. He was so excited! He loves car rides and he gets so sad when I leave in the mornings without him. But the whole time driving to Orem, he had the saddest little eyes and he kept licking my cheek as if to say "Please don't do this to me!" He knew something bad was going to happen. I felt so bad.

So we get there and they whisk the dogs away. We fill out the paperwork and then as we're getting ready to leave, we say that we'll be back between 7-8 and the secretary was like "What?! Pick up time is between 3:00-3:30". So I tell her what the person told me over the phone and she says (in a really snotty way with a look like she thinks I am the biggest idiot ever) "I was the one who took your appt and I DID NOT tell you that." I wanted to hit her. It was the same mean lady!

If they can't even tell me the correct time to pick up my pet then how are they going to operate on my puppy without screwing him up?! I was really upset. But needless to say, I left him there all the while having these horrible scenarios going through my head of what I was going to find when I got there.

Fortunately I was able to work things out that I could make it up there to pick him up. And it was fine. When we walked in and were waiting for someone to help us, I could hear him whining in the back. I felt so bad!! My mom said it could be another dog - but I knew it was him. Wow, I feel like I'm a mom but no, I'm just one of those crazy dog people! Anyway, he came running out along side Poppie. And they were both fine. Although the best part of this whole situation (only because I was still really mad at the mean lady in the morning)was as soon as Poppie came out she went potty (#2!) right next to the nurses desk. Take that you crazy mean lady! But that mean lady wasn't there when it happened. Oh well, it was still really funny.

I got Kage home and gave him a pain pill and I had to put a cone around his neck so he doesn't lick himself and tear the stitching open. He hates the cone and he looks so sad in it. He wouldn't even look at me after I put it on him (he gives me the cold shoulder when he's mad). The cone is kind of funny in a very adorable way but still sad. He keeps running into thing because of it, he got upset once because he couldn't get to his tail because the cone was in the way. I feel bad for him - he has to wear all the time for 5-7 days! Anyway, he's been really sleepy. But now he's cuddled up next to me - the cold shoulder has passed.

I couldn't resist taking some pictures.

When I first put it on him - he was still mad at me.

Can we have your extra pain pills. Poppie's not as brave as Kage.

SAD! Luckily they seem to have short memories of the bad things!
